When the owner of Burke & Company, a private equity holding firm based in Chicago, asked us if we could create a website and personality for his company, we asked him what sort of stuff he likes. He said he admired Warren Buffet, and brands like Criss Craft, images of Americana, and so forth. So we suggested a name change to Burke America, which he agreed to after some amount of consideration (and after we told him it worked for Ralph Lauren). The childhood photos were his idea: he saw on our home office wall enlarged sepia photos of our founders’ parents, when they were children. So the portraits of him and all of his key people we used were from their childhoods — a fitting way to suggest growth, which is exactly what Burke America aims to achieve. The other photos were taken and made possible by Don Pogany and Sticky.
